7 Things to consider before getting a kitten

I remember when I was a little kitten, full of energy. I loved running around, playing, climbing and exploring, now I am a little older, of course, I am much more discerning and a little less carefree. I do still enjoy playtime though. Here I would like to mention just a few things to consider before you bring a kitten into your home.

There is a very useful book called “I just got a new kitten, what do I do now?” worth a read if this is your first kitten but even if you have had a kitten in the past, it is always good to have that extra bit of kitty knowledge don’t you think? šŸ˜‰ You can click the link or picture to order this book to help you new furry feline friend settle in and here are some tips from myself too…

  1. We are not unlike babies. We start off lying in your arms looking peaceful and cute but before you know it we are at toddler stage and running up drapes and curtains, under rugs and scratching wallpaper, not forgetting knocking things off surfaces, oh and the toilet paper, thatā€™s great fun and oopppps breaking things. After all, we are your fur babies right? Talking of the fun stuff my humans call toilet paper, there is a great fun toilet roll holder my human purchased recently, check it out, I am sure as a kitty lover yourself you will absolutely love this cat toilet holder, it is called the HomezoneĀ® Animal Themed Decorative Toilet Roll Holders Cat Free Standing Bathroom Accessory Click on the link or the picture below to check it out now. You can also get one for the larger paper that is even more fun, my human has this one in the place I eat my food, they call it the kitchen. Comfify Yoga Cat Decorative Paper Towel Holder or Toilet Paper Holder is ideal for kitchen rolls or toilet paper, it has a longer tail, a bit like mine šŸ˜‰ Click the link or picture to order it now.
  2. Cats are fussy eaters and we will only accept the best. Even as kittens we learn very quickly to spit out anything we do not believe to be the very best ā€“ oh and ā€œthe bestā€ is very subjective, it depends less on the price and product and more on our likes and dislikes!
  3. As kittens, we grow into an opinionated cat with strong likes and dislikes. Sounds a bit like a teenager right. We donā€™t care if itā€™s your chair, your childā€™s bed, an antique sofa or fragile houseplant or a special decorative bowl. If we like it, itā€™s ours!

4. I personally love nothing more than a human visitor who seems not to like me, better still if they are allergic to my fur I will make sure they are friends with me before they leave, or at least try to make friends. All kittens are taught to always try and make friends, so give me someone who thinks they are allergic or just decided to dislike me and I will be on their lap or climbing up their leg before you know it.

5. As cats, we feel we are perhaps a little entitled. In such we let you humans believe that we canā€™t be trained to do much other than use the litter tray. Clever kitty, we can be trained to do so many things, we are extremely intelligent, we would just rather do things on our terms and not that of our cat guardians. The ability to learn does not mean willingness to do, not when it comes to cats!

6. I am very territorial as a cat, one day we are a small kitten sharing your pillow and the next we are fully grown cats sharing your entire bed. We won’t be happy when we are kicked off your comfy bed so be prepared to share it and I have a preferred side. We grow fast and by fast I mean fast, in a blink of an eye it seems, so that cute little ball of fluff you once held in your hands will soon be fairly heavy to pick up. Cats grow so be prepared, we are not kittens forever. As we get old we need a comfy bed for our joints, my Favourite is the Milliard Premium Orthopedic Memory Foam, this is for small dogs but great for cats as well, honestly I love it and it is just puurrfect!

7. kittenā€™s will quickly warm your heart and stay there. The best way to help a kitten is to adopt, it is important to adopt the right kitten or cat for your lifestyle, does the cat like children? Does it like other cats or animals ? Or is it a lone cat? A little like me. The right environment will mean a happy cat and in turn a happy human cat guardian!
